Director – Process Chemistry and Catalysis

The purpose of this position within the Chemical Technology Group is to set-up, operate, and contribute in the operation of complex experiments related to the chemical transformation of alcohols into bio-based chemicals and/or fuels (Diesel, Olefins, Aromatics, Jet Fuel, etc.) to support objectives of the Business Development group.

Additional Job responsibilities include: collection and recording of data in a concise manner, interact with potential external partners, and support process scale-up activities/design when necessary (Pilot Plant, Engineering, etc.).

The position’s essential duties include the following:

1. Lead innovation team and efforts from ideation through pilot/demonstration scale for conversion of plant-based feedstocks to renewable fuels and chemicals.

2. Develop and lead technical programs for continuous process improvement and new growth initiatives with clear project pipeline.

3. Collaborate with operations and commercial colleagues to set technical goals and objectives with clear time-bound deliverables. Participate in value proposition development with business development


4. Owner of chemistry and catalysis IP strategy and integration of thermochemical process technology with biological transformations.

5. Create and lead internal and external development programs with industrial and academic partners.

6. Ability to work with colleagues to develop external presentation and represent company in technical and non-technical forums.

7. Reporting to Chief Carbon and Innovation Officer


Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry

Advanced degree preferred


A minimum of 1 years of experience R&D or innovation leadership.


· Recognized industrial technical leadership in biofuels and/or renewable chemicals with track record of success is a plus.


· Strong understanding of process chemistry and catalysis with demonstrated track record of leading initiatives from proof of concept to pilot/scale-up.

· High performing organizational leadership capabilities in a highly matrixed environment

· Outstanding communication skills for internal and external needs.

· Demonstrated track record of colleague development and leading technical teams and developing seamless interface with operations and commercial colleagues.

· Ability to provide technical leadership with strong business acumen. Ability to foster innovation and entrepreneurial ideas for pipeline development while maintaining focus on project deliverables.
