Low-Carbon, Bio-Based Sustainable Aviation Fuel

To reduce the environmental impact of aviation, biofuel for jets is a key aspect for the future, because it offers an immediate impact on the carbon footprint.

Our renewable low-carbon jet fuels can be used in today’s aircraft. Our Alcohol-to-Jet Synthetic Paraffinic Kerosene (ATJ-SPK) is Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) that is one of the few non-fossil based alternative jet fuels available for commercial use.

Since it is ready to replace petroleum-based jet fuel, it meets or exceeds the standards in ASTM D1655 specification.:

  • For flash point, the standard stipulates a 38 degrees C minimum, and both typical Jet A-1 and ATJ are well within acceptable range at 48 degrees C.
  • Both also pass the standard for thermal oxidation stability.
  • For freezing point, the standard requires -40 degrees C maximum for Jet A and -47 degrees C for Jet A-1,and Jet A-1 complies with -50 degrees C, while ATJ is -80 degrees C.
  • The energy density standard is 42.8 MJ/kg minimum, and Jet A-1 complies with 42.9 MJ/kg, while ATJ has 43.2 MJ/kg.
  • The total sulfur content standard is 0.3 percent max, while Jet A-1 comes in at 0.05 percent and ATJ rates at less than 0.01 percent.

In the video below, we show how airlines can benefit from sustainable aviation fuel in the near-term, and achieve their goals to reduce carbon emissions.

This means airlines, air-freight haulers, and private aviation can all lower their carbon footprint now, without waiting for new aviation technology to be developed, accepted, and commercialized. And it can work with the current petro-based fuel delivery systems.

COP26 Has Ended and Now It’s Time for Action—Drop-In Advanced Renewable Fuels Are a Good Start

As we learned from COP26, we’re shooting for Global Net-Zero by 2050. That is an admirable goal, but we’re already falling behind the pace as a planet. We need action now, and in ways that begin to slow the flow of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere in measurable, meaningful amounts, and yet allow us to...

Billions of Gallons of Sustainable Aviation Fuel Will Reduce the Carbon Intensity of Travel

VIDEO: Learn about sustainable aviation fuel and solving the problems of travel and GHG emissions. As travel restrictions are relaxed and people get back to flying like they used to, it’s as clear as the bright blue sky: The market for aviation fuel isn’t going anywhere. That was always one of the most compelling reasons...
